What is Magnesium? A Much Needed Mineral!

We have published other posts about Magnesium before, but feel it needs to be added to the Blog again. The importance of getting enough minerals and vitamins daily needs to be mentioned every now and then.

Magnesium is an essential mineral that assists in hundreds of processes in the body. Aside from zinc and calcium, magnesium is one of the most important nutrients and is vital in maintaining optimal health.

Effects on the body

May help regulate body temperature, may assist with detoxing, may help with transmitting nerve impulses, may help with energy production, and may assist with the formation of healthy teeth and bones. These are just a few of the major functions that may be supported by magnesium.

Below are a few of benefits of getting enought magnesium per day:

  • Noise-related hearing loss

  • Migraine headaches

  • Osteoporosis

Magnesium can also be taken in pill form and now gummies.


Dosage: (Remember – if you eat foods rich in magnesium, you may not need to take a supplement.)

  • 65 mg/day for children ages 1-3

  • 110 mg/day for children ages 4-8

  • 350 mg/day for adults and children ages 9 and up

  • Green, leafy vegetables, like spinach

  • Nuts

  • Beans, peas, and soybeans

  • Whole-grain cereals

  • Salmon
